Hart County Fact: Hart County and Lake Hartwell are both named after Nancy Hart. Hart County is the only Georgia county named after a woman. Nancy Hart’s pursuits rise to the level of folklore. She is known for her vigorous opposition to Loyalists during the American Revolutionary War, even being rumored to have killed some Tory soldiers herself.
